Preschool & childcare

Hales Corners Lutheran School (HCLS) is concerned with the welfare of the whole child. We see a child’s developmental needs as spiritual, physical, intellectual, emotional, and social. Our Preschool Programs guide children so that they may gain a healthy self-concept and a positive feeling of trust about God and others.

At HCLS, the structure of learning time is always balanced with ample time for play, as children learn actively through play. In free choice play, children are free to choose from an array of age-appropriate equipment, materials, and activities, like:

  • Dramatic play, including puppets or dress-up costumes, family living in the doll corner, or simply using a vivid imagination.

  • Block play, including unit blocks, small table blocks or carpentry.

  • Structured manipulative play, including tabletop toys such as puzzles, Lego blocks, or lacing boards.

  • Unstructured manipulative play, including sand, clay, water, bubble blowing, and finger paints.

  • Children also have ample opportunities to work on gross motor skills through indoor and outdoor activities and play time.

Our teachers are loving, sensitive people who are committed to the needs of young children and to the conveying of God’s love through their own actions.
