Music Ministries

Music is such a powerful part of worship! It can inspire people and help make worship a more meaningful and moving experience. Through our Music Ministry at HCL, you can lend your vocal and instrumental talents to lifting up God's Word and inspiring those in worship! If you play an instrument or sing, we want to invite you to get involved and offer your talents to one or more of HCL’s music groups—scroll down to see the many music opportunities we have available!

Music Ministry Opportunities

Vocal

  • Festival Choir: Formal SATB seasonal choir performing large scale Christmas and Easter concerts along with the Festival Orchestra. These concerts are highly attended and serve as anticipated outreach events. Previous choral singing required (i.e. high school, college, or church choir). Choir rehearsals are Sunday afternoons. Schedule is released prior to the holiday season.

  • Praise Team: This group is made up of joyful singers who enjoy singing contemporary Christian and “praise & worship” styles of music in a fast-paced learning environment. We lead worship once per month for all four weekend services with two Wednesday evening rehearsals. If you read music, great! If you’re quick to pick up a vocal part without proficient reading skills, no problem. Vocal parts are taught. Audition required.

  • Sanctuary Worship Choir: SATB choir who leads weekend worship with a mix of contemporary and traditional music styles for special services and church year celebrations like All Saints, Reformation, and Patriotic weekends. Choir leads all 4 weekend services. Rehearsal schedule is released prior to the special date. Previous choral experience is required.

  • Soloist Ministry: If you’re interested in performance level solo, duet, or trio singing for weekend worship, this is the place for you! Audition required.

  • Worship Team Singers: This smaller group of rotating singers, selected by the Director of Music Ministry, helps lead worship several weekends per year, singing SATB vocal parts on mic. Music consists of traditional hymns, praise & worship music, and contemporary songs with piano, organ, and/or band and horns. Audition required.

Instrumental

  • Festival Orchestra: Formal seasonal orchestra performing large scale Christmas and Easter concerts with the Festival Choir. The Festival Orchestra is made up of selected HCL instrumentalists along with Milwaukee area professional musicians. These concerts are highly attended and serve as anticipated outreach events. Previous orchestral experience is required. Instrumentalists are expected to rehearse individually and in large group dress rehearsal.

  • Horns/Brass Players: This group of experienced musicians plays for several weekends per year during worship-Easter, Christmas Eve, and Memorial Day to name a few-along with many other weekends showcasing brass fanfare. Instruments include trumpet, trombone, sax, bari, and french horn. Audition required for new players.

  • Praise Band: This band is made up of experienced instrumentalists who enjoy playing contemporary Christian and praise & worship styles of music in a cohesive, tight band for Sanctuary worship. We play mostly from lead sheets and some chord charts. Example: drums, bass guitar, EG/AG guitar, violin, keys, flute, percussion. Audition required.

Worship Media Ministry Opportunities

  • Screen Operator: If you have good concentration skills, stay engaged, are familiar with music, and enjoy working with technology, the Sanctuary is always looking to add to our incredible team of Screen Operators. This volunteer position works by tapping a computer keyboard to advance song lyrics and spoken liturgy/words on the large screens in front of the church during weekend worship. Training is available and recommended.

  • Livestream Switcher: This small team of volunteers runs the switcher system and cameras during the 9:15 am Sunday morning livestream and for other special services throughout the church year where a stream is needed. Programmed shots are scripted out for you. If you like the broadcast/video realm and have talent in camera operation, this would be a great opportunity. Training is provided and recommended.
